Is a GTX 1080 enough to completely max out the 2016 "Doom" game and get a steady 60fps?

I heard that Nvidia's "Vulkan" API gives enormous performance boosts to Doom if you're using a compatible DX12 GPU.

Solution

No, Doom was Optimized for Vulkan which is favored by AMD.

That said the GTX 1080 takes care of it with raw power. 2 GTX 1080 in SLI would EASILY play Doom at 4k at over 60 fps.

I have 980ti and play at 1440p max setting and my fps is always in the 90+ plus range and never even comes close to dipping to 60. A 1080 will have zero issues, unless you at 4k. Even then it might be all 60 all the time

Vulkan is not Nvidia, its independent but supported far better by AMD.

Either way a GTX 1080 would have no problem keeping that game well over 100fps maxed out at 1080p. My RX 480 does it and is nowhere near as powerful..

Would GTX 1080 SLI be enough for Doom @4K?

Doom was programmed to be optimized for Nvidia's GTX 10xx series, is that correct?
