It looks like cannonlake will be arriving during the second half of 2017. Will the performance difference be worth the wait, or would you recommend kaby lake for a new build. Time isn't a huge factor for me, but if there's only going to be a 5% or less increase in performance I wouldn't consider that worth my time. I would be most likely purchasing an i7.

Thank you in advance for your time.

Edit: I'm not considering AMD at the moment so I don't care about Ryzen.

I'd recommend kaby lake. I upgraded from Haswell and it was definitely worth it. As long as the cpu is high end it should last a good few years. I doubt cannonlake will blow kaby lake out of the water anyway. What are you going to do? keep waiting every time a new architecture comes out? gotta buy one eventually.

It's far too early to tell. The general consensus is that if you're determined to wait to upgrade or build, you will wait perpetually as there is always a new release looming around the corner.

So it depends which cpu u have now. If u have a very bad one, I would suggest to upgrade to kaby lake, but if u have a sky lake, then wait for cannon lake.
