I've seen some other answers, but just wanted some clarification. When exactly can you say that an overclock is stable?
Have a i7 7700k that I've been messing around with. Been mostly using Prime95 v26.6 to test temps, decided to use it for quick stability tests as well. Just as an example, after a few bumps up and down of voltage/clock speed, got to a point where Prime95 didn't cause a BSOD the second it started up, and the temps were acceptable. Looked good after 10 minutes, so I opened up a browser, fired up a few tabs. Still fine. Next tab though, BSOD. Obliviously unstable, right? But that got me thinking, is it expected that a CPU being utilized at 100% would have issues when trying to throw other things at it? That it should perhaps BSOD? Or should it be able to balance whatever is thrown at it, at which point it's truly stable?
For example, at stock speeds/voltages, should I be able to load up Prime95, a couple of demanding games, and encode some video files, and expect that while there may be some lag/hang-ups, it'll be able to juggle the load/voltage, and there shouldn't be any fatal exceptions, BSODs and the like? That that actually means it's stable, and that I have to up voltage until I can theoretically do something similar when overclocked?
