I'm looking at buying a gaming pc that has this motherboard. https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A97_R20/
And I would like to upgrade the hard drive in it. I like playing MMO's and a lot of FPS like overwatch, rainbow six siege, Battlefield 1, and games like Final Fantasy 15, I'm not sure if I need a SATA+ssd or just a solid state. What kind of hard drive do I need?

If I understand you correctly, what you want is a SATA based SSD which will improve overall responsiveness and may help a bit with loading maps in games which are installed on it. If you have a large number of games, you may want to opt for an SSD for the OS, and another larger HDD to install and store your games on.

So would any hard drive that has the interface of SATA 6Gb/s work with the motherboard of the computer?
And how would I go about using an SSD for the OS?

Yes, any SATA III (6 Gbps) drive will work on your board. You will need to reinstall the OS system, specifying the the SSD as the destination. You might possibly be able to clone the current hard drive with the OS already on it, to the SSD and then use the HDD for storage. There are programs such as Macrium Reflect Free that can help you do this, but it becomes a little more difficult when the drive you are trying to clone (the HDD) is larger than the destination drive (the SSD).

So as long as it is a SATA III, and the same size or larger than what is already installed I shouldn't have an issue then right? Also I just thought about this, would I be able to install the new hard drive and still keep the current one but use the new one for gaming? From what I found the motherboard has 6 expansion slots.

When installing games, you are given the option of what directory (or drive) you want to install them. Most people save the game to a larger HDD when they are using an SSD for the boot drive to save space on it. Game play isn't affected too much by running the game from an HDD, the biggest difference being maps will take slightly longer to load from the HDD. By running your OS from the current HDD and using the SSD for game installations, you would really be losing the main benefit of the SSD, which is system responsiveness and storage space (unless you're getting a really large SSD).

Thank you for all the information and I'm sorry to bother you. This is the computer that I've been thinking about.

From reading the reviews I've found out that the hard drive is HDD. The games that I'm looking to play are first person shooters, and MMO's like Tera and Final Fantasy 14. I'm also looking to play Metal Gear Solid 5 and Final Fantasy 15. Would this computer work? I have no experience building or parting computers and I'm looking for a computer and monitor combo under $1,000. I have a rough idea of what I'm looking for which this computer meets except for the hard drive. I've already found the monitor thankfully. All of this help is really appreciated.
