So I have quite a few LGA775 motherboards lying around and I was wondering if it would be worth it to spend about 65/80 dollars on one of these old extreme chips. I already have the ram, mobo, and the cpu cooler so that way the only money spent is on the cpu. Also if it is worth it how well would it pair with one of todays modern budget gpus or even an old enthusiast chip? Such as the rx470 or gtx590/690?
Thanks for reading, advice is appreciated.

I hope you are looking for used cpu. Well, in that case i'd rather recommend the q9650 over qx9770. Because you better not waste too much money on a socket 775 mobo.
The core 2 quad is cheaper and the performance doesnt differ as the price.
See this comparison- http://www.game-debate.com/cpu/index.php?pid=198&pid2=18&compare=core-2-extreme-qx9770-3-2ghz-vs-core-2-quad-q9650-3-0ghz
And i believe that you can use upto a gtx 960 with the q9650 (could be slight bottleneck, but thats okay)
But i doubt using the stock cooler with these cpu's as they produce much heat... Hope this helps

I already have a spare 212 evo, mobo and spare ram aall i would need is the cpu. Since both are similarly priced, wouldnt the qx9770 be a bit better, considering i can OC it? Or is the performance difference even when oc'ed negligable?
