Hi ! I need to upgrade my GPU and I am stuck between RX 480 and GTX 1060.. I saw that AMD Improved their drivers and most of the users in the forum/s said that rx 480 is more future proof because of the 8 GB VRam and the better Performance in DX12, other said that GTX 1060 is better in DX11 (After the driver update I think AMD closed the gap in DX11) .
*I want to buy something that I can use for more than 3 years (budget rules)*
*RX 480 is ~10 EUR cheaper here*

Solution
I'm a Nvidia fan so i'd say 1060 6GB. But here are the pros and cons.

The big picture is that they both run games at close to identical performance and do their job

1060 6GB
Pros
-Better if you plan to upgrade within 3 years
-If you already have a G-sync monitor
-Supports the newest Nvidia features such as Ansel
-ShadowPlay/Nvidia Share Recording Software
-It's Nvidia

Cons
-Can't do SLI

RX480 8GB Gaming X (Better Cooler)
Pros
- AMD Freesync (Freesync monitors are $100-200 cheaper than G-Sync)
-Long Term Driver Support
-Better Optimized Drivers
-Better Performance with Vulcan API (If I'm Not Mistaken) Although not many games currently support it.
-Better Price Depending On Where You Buy
-AMD Crossfire

Cons
-It's AMD (JK)

I see. Yes, usually NVidia releases drivers for games before day 1. AMD, however, releases later but better drivers. I think they are quite similar performance wise. Maybe you can also check the user experience with their software. For example, NVidia has user-friendly streaming, game overlay, game optimization services built-int. Not sure for AMD since I didn't own one for many years. But you can check both software and see which you like most.

I have the 480 4gb msi gaming X and wouldn't trade it for a free 1060 6gb. I'm not bashing the 1060, just saying how happy I've been with this. I like the feature that adjust the clock speed in real time to run cooler and more efficiently. It runs cool and has maxed out everything I play without any issues. Temps have not even gone past 69 even during heavy benchmarks.

MSI 480 4gb gaming X here as well. Been a great card.

[edit]
Was just playing with custom fan curves in AfterBurner while running FurMark GPU stress test. Even with the side panel off and fans running at 100% speed they are not noisy at all.

If 480 8Gb is more cheaper than 1060, then go with 480. They are on par performance, and 480 seem to have upper hand in real DX12. I got my 1060 when 480 is still more expensive. Do not forget that 480 can do crossfire while 1060 cannot do SLi, not that I recommended it anyway.

All in all, go with the cheaper 480 8Gb. Similar performance, cheaper price, future proof. What else did you want?
