Hi. I have been having awful high ping issues with my router. I have 300 mbps download and 300 mbps upload. My ping will be at a normal (5-6 ms) and then all of the sudden it will jump to over 300 ms. I have contacted Verizon, my ISP. They say it's fine, but it's not. I have an ASUS RT-AC3200 router that I got a few months ago. I have only had this problem for about two weeks. I have spent 6+ hours googling potential solutions but none of them work. I live in a suburb of DC. I am extremely fed up as I just bought parts for a $2500 gaming PC, but now I can't game very well. Someone PLEASE help me out here!

"box outside of my house that could be the mode"
That's possible...

Look on your router.. The one with the blue line under the port is the one from the modem.
So, disconnect your modem line from the router and plug it into your laptop or whatever you're using.
That's the one you need.

Connect your computer directly to the modem without using a router.

Typical Setup:
Coax Cable from outside > Cable Modem > Wireless Router > Computer

Do this instead:
Coax Cable from outside > Cable Modem > Computer

No you may not be using a cable modem. It could be a fiber modem, DSL modem or wireless access modem. But you connect to the internet using a modem.

I don't have a cable modem or maybe mine is external. I have a Verison box outside of my house that could be the modem. Also there is a coax cable from outside and an ethernet cable. But my router doesn't have a coax input. I have a mac so I dont have an ethernet port but I will buy a usb to ethernet adapter and try that. thanks for your help

"I have a mac so I dont have an ethernet port"
Macs use the same network ports. The only time it may not have one is if you have a laptop that is designed to be very thin. Even then I think that's pretty cheap of them to leave something like that out of a design.

"But my router doesn't have a coax input."
Of course it doesn't, most don't unless they have a built-in modem.
