i am looking to get a new pc for graphics,3d, video editing and app development purpose, maybe mobile game development later. currently i am looking to take i5 6500 motherboard, b150-d3h motherboard 16gb ram and gtx 1050ti graphic card...

i wanted to know if theres any alternative to i5 which can give me same or better results since i heard intel's are more costly due to brand name and there r alternatives which give same result and cheaper.

plz guide

also is gigabyetb150-d3h better or gigabyet-h170 ?

AMDs current FX line processors are only going to be marginally better then an i5 due to its very inefficient archetecture. A core i3 can beat it in single thread performance (or applications restricted to 4 threads). Not to mention by the time you get a good 990 chipest board and aftermarket cooler your savings with the 8350 is now gone.

This wont per-say be cheaper then the i5 but it will give you way more bang for your $$.
Go with last generaiton (socket 1150) Xeon 1231. This will give you i7 level performance with 4 cores and 8 threads which will perform way better then a newer i5 for 3d and video editing.

intel is very expensive indeed

amd is cheaper in general, but at the moment, all amd options are about to be replaced by the new amd platform that will be here in february or march

having said that, a fx 8350 and a good mainboard could be cheaper than the i5 you mention and very decent for what you need it and th cpu is a 8 cores cpu, for some tasks this is great

still, most people will tell you to buy intel because amd will not be upgradeable thanks to the new platform i mentioned

the gpu, mainboard and cpu you mention sounds goo to me, perhaps a faster cpu, or a i7, since you are going to develop apps and the time compiling on a i7 will be reduced, especially if the cpu is fast, so the fastest you can buy would be good

Intel chips are more expensive because they are better, and there is no competition to their newer processors currently. AMD has not released a new chip for quite some time, while Intel releases new chips regularly.

AMD Ryzen is set to release within the next month or two, so if you are not building immediately maybe that will be an option for you.

new as in the same old one from 3 ears but improved 2%, yes intel releases lots of things :D

the idea of wait for zen as a advantage, it is price, it is a highly discussed topic, if those new zen cpus will make intel lower prices or zen itsel will be a better and cheaper offering

Kaby Lake is about 6-8% performance boost over Skylake. I agree though, same chip with slightly better performance every year for 3 years. I'll still take that over AMD releasing chips every 5 years though. At least with Intel I know what to expect.

thank you for confirming my post where i said that everybody will complain about amd and lots of information about what others reported on very expensive mainboard on specific tools can report, most of those tools made to work with intel better than other tools

one thing that hasn't been mentioned is the power consumption

at the moment, the best option is that same i5 you mention in the first post, it will under load use as much as 90 watts

the others will use more, amd will go up to 220 watts, not sure about the xeon, surely is high too but not as high as amd fx8350 but on most cases the mainboard required for it makes it very expensive to implement, mostly second hard hardware

add to that the gpu, your 1070, those are 75 watts more or less, not much people consider power consumption as a cost, so, as i said previously, your selection on cpu, mainboard and gpu is very good, surely under load will use 160 to 200 watts maximum, that sounds perfect to me

for 99% of users, what you get with an H170 vs a B150 isn't really worth it: more PCIe X1/X4 slots and 2 more SATA slots (total 8), when you'll use at most 3 SATA slots (SSD, HDD, and DVD) and probably none of the X1/X4 slots (maybe 1 if you have a wi-fi card)
