Hello, I have a custom computer with an ASUS M5A97 r2.0 motherboard and an AMD Phenom II x6 1045T processor. I'm looking to upgrade the graphics card but i don't know what would be a good fit for the motherboard and processor. I was looking at the Geforce GTX 1060 because I'm looking to spend under $250. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Solution
Your motherboard (outside of potential BIOS issues) has very little to do with compatibility for GPUs - providing it has an available PCIe slot.

IMO, a GTX 1060 would be a waste paired with a Phenom 1045T. I wouldn't look to pair anything greater than a 1050TI with it.

I agree with barty, I have a 1060 paired with a heavily overclocked fx 6350 and I see quite a bit of cpu bottlenecking in cpu intensive titles. The only way I would suggest a 1060 is if you plan to upgrade to intel or amd zen in the near future. Otherwise I agree a 1050 ti would make more sense with that build.

Yeah thanks, I'll probably just get a new PC in the upcoming months, was just trying to check for a cheaper solution if possible.

If you're looking at a new build, you could pair any GPU with the Phenom, it'll just be limited somewhat in the meantime, and then you move it forward to a new build.

That being said, if you may or may not build a new setup, I'd stick with a 1050ti max.
