ddr4 speeds and difference to ddr3

I suppose this is two questions. How the ddr4 speeds compare, and generally how ddr4 compares to ddr3.
Building a new system, just wanted to know what's what in relation to ddr4 - there is a lot of ddr4 kits out there, probably too much. Seen some nicely priced ddr4 2400 kits, but was curious if ddr4 3000 was worth the price premium?

Basically DDR4 picks up where DDR3 leaves off, using Lower voltage chips, and accepting faster Bus clocks from the memory controller.
