How to know if my GPU is enough to power up by 1 PCIE Cable?

So I already asked on the title, I have Seasonic M12II 80+ Bronze. I kept running with a black screen issue with my R9 280x, Currently im only using 1 PCIE Cable ( 1 6+2 pin and 1 6 pin ) to power up the gpu, But when I try to run GPU-Z the Sensors tab shows nothing, Red Bars. What does that mean? Should I buy new GPU or is it best to repair or troubleshoot it myself? Thanks!

Edit: I use a HDMI Output for both monitor and gpu.

Hello, Thanks for your answer, Apparently my GPU only has 1 x 8 required pin and 1 x 6 pin. My psu has 2 x 6+2pin ( sry that i didnt made it clear earlier ) but other 2 pin is just in there since the 2nd pin slot doesnt need a 8 pin, Should I put another PCI-E cable on another 6 pin or no?

So;

i7-6700
ASUS H110M-K
8gb 2133mhz Kingston RAM
Seasonic M12II 80+ Bronze of unknown wattage
R9 280x, unknown model.

First, are you plugging the monitor into the card? How many PCIe plugs does your PSU have? I had an issue with my Antec 750W green and my 7950. I tried to use the same cord to power the 7950, but I could only get it working by using a PCIe plug from both the cords coming out of my PSU. Perhaps something similar is happening with you.

Is the 280X used? Maybe you just have a bad/dead card.

Sorry i didnt specified it, It is a 620w and a VTX3D R9 280x, I use only 1 PCIe Plug since that plug has already 2 ( 1 x 6+2 pin and 1 x 6 pin ) cables for the Graphics Card, And no, Before I bought it, Its working fine. But when i tried to plug on my old motherboard that is broke now ( last time ) my pc didnt boot up, Maybe because the gpu is damaged because of the old motherboard?

Ok, So finally I found the answer. Turns out, My motherboard doesnt support HDMI which my GPU has HDMI and already connected on the monitor. I checked the specifications of my motherboard itself doesnt support HDMI adapter. Anyways, Thanks for answering my problem!

Wait so your GPU has 1x8 pin and 1x6 pin connectors yet you only have one cable powering the card? theres your issue....unless im reading this wrong.

You should have the 6+2 plugged into the 8 pin on the card and the 6 pin plugged into the 6 pin, tuck away the remaining 2 pin connector.

Bios is updated, Not bad card also, It is really 100% working fine when it was passed to me. And its not a PSU, My PSU is just a months old.

The 1 PCIe cable has 2 x 6+2, So its enough powering the card.

It would seem you are mildly confused.

1st. The GFX card supports HDMI. Your motherboard's inability is moot. The integrated GPU(if present) is deactivated because you are using a dedicated card making the motherboard connections unimportant and not important where compatibility is concerned. You were incorrect with your conclusion.

2nd. You tell us you have a 620W PSU. You make no mention of the make or model. SPECIFICs are necessary to properly troubleshoot.

3rd. That card has a max TDP of 250 W. Your card is fed up to 75W from your PCIe x16 slot(closest to your PSU). Your card is fed up to and 75W with the 6 pin PCIe supplementary power cable. Your card is fed up to 150W with the 8 pin PCIe supplementary power cable. You chose to only plug in the 6 pin cable. That means you are feeding the card that requires up to 250W only 150W. You are starving the card. You failed to follow the manufacturer's directions.

You then hurt my last brain cell with the statement "The 1 PCIe cable has 2 x 6+2, So its enough powering the card.". Um WHAT? 1 PCIe cable is by its vary definition 1 cable. The end may split in the 6+2's case but you then say has 2 x 6+2. That is NOT possible.

Thank you. LOL. Not enough coffee. That means there are 2 cables plugged in. Apparently both connectors are braided? IDK. Sorry for the confusion. Still a newb over here.

Thats how i read it aswell you arent alone :)

@OP did you get the card brand new or second hand? it could be defective or have an intermittent power connector causing it to cut out under high load.

Ok sorry, Im a standard pc gamer/builder too, I only have enough knowledge about these things. 2 splitter rather, 2 x 6+2 pin. The GPU is 2nd hand. But, before it came to me he is still using it so it must've been working fine. Sorry if i made it really confusing to understand.
@aquile also, i already mentioned above what brand of my PSU is.
I read the manual on the PSU that states, "If your card needs 250w below use only 1 PCIe cable" ( Not sure if it is 250w below )
Gonna make it clear later since I have something to do.

Im still using the Onboard Graphics right now, Since i cant find a way to fix it. I already looked up all of kinds of solution but none of them didn't work. I already contacted the seller and he agreed to ship the item back to him so he can look up what is the problem that i am struggling. But if you guys have an answer i will try to do it myself with your assistance.

Should be no inherent problem using a singular v modular cable with split pci-express connectors.
This is a seasonic after all not some cheap tat psu.

Certainly check the pins on your cable (GPU side) to make sure none have pushed out & aren't making contact properly or try the other cable if you still have it.

The fact vthe seller has accepted a return would lead me to believe there ia a problem with the card that he was aware of though.

Where did you actually buy it from ??

From other person, He bought 1070 and he sold the R9 280x cheaper to me so i grabbed it, Ive seen the power of R9 280x so I did bought it. MSI Afterburner doesnt work on me too, It detects it but i cant click on anything. I will take another try though, im gonna re-seat all the cables just to make sure if the GPU itself has the problem.
