hello i have an M51BC MotherBoard from asus and was wondering if i can overclock with it iv looked up about online and cant seem to find anything on it

Solution
The motherboard is not a M51BC, that's the model number of that particular pre built. Assuming you want to overclock the cpu I need to know what motherboard you have, the spec sheet does not say. Pop off your side panel and look for a model number on the motherboard itself, or take a picture and post it. Also what gpu and what power supply do you have? For the power supply look for a label and give the brand and model. Also what cpu cooler? The stock amd cooler is not ideal for overcloking, and I doubt that pre built case has very good airflow so that might not be ideal either.

i am using the stock cooler on my amd fx6300 and have seen videos of people overclocking them, but my temps are fine around 50 idle and 54-56 when under load, my psu is a cx500 and my gpu is a gtx 560 ti. now i have looked on asus website and cannot find my motherboard. now i do have pictures but have no idea how to post them

You may be able to overclock it but AMD's CPUs cannot handle high temperatures as compared to those of Intel so I wouldn't recommend overclocking. The max operating temp of your processor is 65C, going further may just damage your CPU. And you do realize people that you saw OC'ing probably don't have a stock cooler? Almost no one OCs on those. In simple words you shouldn't try overclocking until you can get a decent CPU cooler. Try to save for the Cooler Master Hyper EVO... It's only around 35 dollars and you can push your CPU to a decent limit with that.

Ok I won't try and overclock my CPU atm, are there any programs I can use to see what motherboard I have?

CPU-Z will identify your motherboard.
You generally need a better than average motherboard to overclock a FX processor.
Lastly, I would expect temperatures at idle to be 10-15c. over ambient if your cooler is mounted well and functioning.
But, I think the amd stock cooler is not supposed to be very good.

If you can enter the bios, see if you see any options to change the multiplier.

I never really have my CPU fan speed over 2000rpm and never under 1400 but temps are stable under load and idle but I have to have the side panel off or my gpu over heats I did upgrade the prebuilt from a gt640 to my 560ti
And no there are no mulitiplier options so I'm going with no I cannot over clock with my current motherboard but thanks for the help

Downdraft coolers are not as effective as tower type coolers.
I might suggest you buy a better tower type cooler like the cryorig H7 for about $35.
The 120mm fan will run quieter and move more air.
Moreover, the tower orientation will direct the heated air out the back of the case which should help your gpu temperatures and perhaps let you put the covers back on.

I do only have one output fan for air and as far as I can see I can't add any intakes. but i think the reason my gpu is so hot, is because my gpu is blowing air down then the hot air is moving up back into the gpu(well that's my guess anyway) and there is not a lot of space between the bottom of the case and gpu
I do have pictures but have no idea how to get them to you
