G-sync on laptop panel with external gpu?

Is it possible to run g-sync on a g-sync enabled laptop panel while using an external GPU dock? Point being, I'm trying to decide on a laptop, and I'd like something small for work and travel that I can take with me, with a GPU dock I bring on longer trips when I have time to play. I would not be able to bring a g-sync monitor. If it isn't possible, I may just go with a bit bigger laptop with enough gfx horsepower onboard, though this would not be ideal for daily carrying to work.

I apologize if this has already been asked, but I couldn't find it in the forums. Thanks in advance for your help!

Solution
Yes, it should work with an external gpu with laptop monitor. The functionality won't be lossed since gsync module is not part of the internal gpu, but it is part of the monitor.

Thank you for the reply, but actually I'm trying to find out if you can run gsync on the built-in display in the laptop while using external gpu, not an external monitor. Any thoughts?

Hi,
Since your builtin laptop monitor is not connected to an output slot of your external GPU, I don't think it's possible.
