Fps dropping after GPU OC

Hello! I started to overclock my Asus GTX 970 Strix non OC model today and I started to increase the core clock 50MHz at the time and went from 1178MHz to 1378MHz with great improvement. I saw 5-8% improvement in fps and score at Valley and Metro last ligth and GTA V benchmarks. Then after I got the core clock ok for me I started to increase the memory clock from 7010MHZ to 7200Hz my benchmark scores dropped immediately like the Metro dropped from 87fps avg. to 55 avg. fps. Reseting the the card to default clocks wont seem to do anything and now Im asking for help. What can i do to fix the problem?

you don't increase the clocks by 50MHz you go by 10-20 usually.
did the problem appear only after you upped the memory clock ? if yes then just leave the memory clock as it is and up the core clock since memory clock doesn't give a performance boost on newer cards as much as i know
