Upgrading to a GTX1080, will the rest bottleneck?

So i currently have
- ASUS P6X58D-E mobo
- 12gb DDR3 Ram
- i7 950
- running only at 1080 res

currently running a gtx770, which is ok, but showing its age with new games, starting to struggle a bit, will upgrading just the GPU to a 1080 cause any bottlenecking, or enough to make the upgrade pointless?
i would rather a full new build but hiding $ from my wife takes time, i can get away with $900 for a new GPU for the moment tho

i am running 1080 res at the moment but will go up to 4k quite soon, just waiting for a good sale, and i prefer gaming at ultra & a 1060 will show its age alot sooner and i might invest in VR once it starts blowing my skirt up

your system is not good enough for any of that

it is time to upgrade your build

also a 1080 is not capable of 4k ultra with decent fps, especially if you want to do VR

4k ultra would currently take titan XP in sli, and sometimes you would need to reduce settings

your current setup has a snowball's chance in hell to run that XD

Time for a new build yes, did some more reading, can't even upgrade my RAM beyond 16gb, may as well go all out on a new build

gtx1080 with 4k / Ultra / VR. it can yes, but not at the same time, i aint that disillusioned :) looking at a new build anyway now. the thought to save $ was both short term lasting & painful
