I have a edimax ac1200 usb wireless adapter and for some reason it randomly turns off for a few seconds disconnecting me and then turns back on. It doesn't happen very often but at least a few times a day. I've tried all the usb ports (2.0 and 3.0) and also tried connecting to my 5ghz and 2.4ghz bands on my router, it does it on both. The most obvious solution to this problem would be making sure that the power settings for my wifi adapter are set to max performance and it is. Also in my wifi adapter configuration I have the setting checked off so my computer doesn't power down the adapter to save power. I don't think it's a problem with my router or anything since it works fine for everyone else. Is there any other settings that could be causing this problem?

A driver problem maybe?
Try updating the drivers to latest.

Replacing the USB WiFi adapter with a decent brand may fix the problem (Netgear, Belkin, Billion to name a few).
