Why is my Xbox one controller lagging/slowing down games when using on PC?

On Windows 10,any games I play with the controller,it will cause the FPS to decrease significantly compared to keyboard and mouse.I have tried updating to the newest drivers as well as using oldest drivers/windows 7 drivers. Is there any way to fix this?

Thank you in advance.

If you are monitoring fps using software and are seeing an actual drop in fps that is NOT input lag. Input lag does not affect fps.

Are you running the wireless adapter or via USB?

I am using an USB cable to play. The Xbox one controller i am using is the normal wireless controller, not the bluetooth enabled one.

Hmm the problems I had were with wireless but its still worth uninstalling and reinstalling the driver encase its corrupted. You don't need a Bluetooth controller for wireless, you just need one of these adapters http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-one/accessories/controllers/windows-wireless-adapter

Are your motherboard drivers up to date, just encase its a USB driver issue?

I have already tried reinstalling the drivers completely and yes my motherboard has the latest driver.
I have also tried using an xbox 360 controller via wireless dongle but this suffers the same problem

dude, can you look up your tv/monitor? it's build and year, brand and stuff? a lot of display units have heinous lag (mine has one) so you can google stuff up or post the details of your tv here. with that said, windows pc does get paired with xbox one but the issue is this...

first of all, your console will send the information to the display unit via tha cable, which takes time since hdmi is digital and not analog like vgas used to be,

secondly, windows will process the data from xbox which will add precious microseconds to the response time, thus making it crappier.

In case you're playing a multiplayer game, the output will also be subject to ping and the strength of your connection. so think of microsoft's pairing feature as an addon but don't use it too much. lemme know if i'm missing something.

Cheers

Ok,This issue has only been present since i upgraded to windows 10,i.e.it is not a hardware deficiency.I have found that when i use a game pad mapper, the lag is not present when the controller is recognised as the keyboard/mouse.However this solution is very glichy and not ideal.

Have you tried it over another device running Win10? Maybe that narrow it down a bit?

I've been researching this too. I have two PCs and we use Xbox One Wireless Controllers via Bluetooth, and we have experienced a significant slowdown in FPS on some games (and we have 1080's in each) several times (even playing same game together one person will see slowdown, other not), and the more i've looked into this, my current theory is when bluetooth slows down from PC side or the controller side it slows down FPS but not sure why. I'm looking into switching back to the non-bluetooth dongle Microsoft sells as a possible solution to Bluetooth. I'm just not feeling bluetooth on the PC is fast enough or reliable enough for serious gaming. And, I see Microsoft is releasing a new smaller dongle for Xbox one controllers on 1/31/18, so maybe they know this dongle is needed over bluetooth. I've been testing wired too is FPS seems much improved, though wireless is the way i want to go, its just more comfortable. So i'm not sure how game FPS (frames per second) is related to controller efficiency but i'm thinking there is a link. About 10 times, the controller itself would completely loose connection and start flashing again, even though battery is good -- i keep good ones in there. Has anyone else noted a link between FPS and Bluetooth issues?

OP, I did notice the same problem as yours. I use a win10 with xbox one usb wireless adapter. All drivers updated.

I also noted that if I start the machine with the wireless adapter already connected, the fps problem simply goes away.
Very strange.

Now when I physically connect the wireless adapter after the startup or when the game is already running, I can see the fps rate diminishing. And it persists even if close and reopen the game application.

For now I'll simply let the wireless adapter permanently connected to my machine. I'll make some tests later. I thought of a conflict with other wireless devices. My router has a Wi-Fi setup.
But I know your struggle.

Sorry I'm late to the party. I need help with mine too. I'm having the same issues for most of my games when I try to use an xbox one controller. I can definitely see the game chug when I switch to the controller vs when I use mouse and keyboard. It happened on Forza 7 and Witcher 3 especially. Input lag or frame drop it's too distracting and unplayable. I tried both direct USB connection and blutooth and the battery is fully charged as well.

- I'm using Windows 10 version 1809 (latest updated) to take advantage of RTX features

-Newest NVIDIA driver (latest update) to take advantage of RTX features.

-Dell 144hz 1440p monitor on native resolution.

-Alienware R4 17 i7 7700hq, 16 gb DDR4 ram, GTX 1070 but with Alienware Graphics Amplifier connecting RTX 2080.
I haven't tried disconnecting my laptop from the alienware graphics amplifier and try running it on it's own GPU though since I haven't had reasons to take my laptop anywhere and it's a pain in the butt to reconnect again and reinstall the drivers. Prior to having the graphics amplifier with RTX 2080, which I only recently bought this February 2019, and the current Windows 10 version said above, I had no issues.

Same problem here... I think that decrease in FPS happens when the processor is enduring too much strain from the controller and the whole process from recieving data from the controller to the application happening in the game. Which is susceptible to crash due to overload

Same problem I use a wired xbox controller. And a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. It's seems like some kind of sleep or idle setting (I am going to investigate power options on windows settings now). Basically I can play games fine but after minutes I notice the frame rates suddenly drop.... However if I give my Bluetooth mouse a quick wiggle it seems to wake something up and I get the full frame rate again. This happens repeatedly and it fixes the issue, although I have to do it repeatedly which is a temporary annoying fix.
