Stock vs Overclock CPU in battlefield 1

I'm planning to buy i5 processor for battlefield 1 and I'm considering the i5 7600 kaby that can boost to 4.1ghz
It will be nearly the same price as i5 6600k that can overclock, but if I buy the "K" series I'm also gonna buy the expensive z series motherboard so I can overclock. I can settle on the cheaper H110M
but I'm worried about the performance.
It's ok if the difference is 5-8 fps over the overclock cpu
But if the difference is going to 15-20fps I might consider buying the overclock one

I have rx 480 to pair with it.

And how about a dual vs quad channel ram, will it also make difference? Since H110M only has 2 slots for ram while those big atx motherboard has 4 slots

Solution
A 3770 would most likely be better than a Kaby i5 in Battlefield. However I doubt you'll get 100fps, a modern i5 can frequently drop below 50 in that game.

Be aware that a 6700 is about $100 cheaper than a 6700k all said and done, because you can get a cheaper board and don't need an aftermarket cooler.

Given your budget, the 3770 may be the best you can do, but it's probably not going to meet your expectations.

even if you had 4 ram slots, they would only run in dual channel

quad channel is limited to certain platforms

bf1 currently suffers from poor coding, that causes an issue with cpu's

you need an i7 for it to perform well

for the last 4 generations, the difference between generations is usually only 5 - 10%

for example a i7 4790k would easily outperform a i5 7600 in bf1

Even an older i7 will slightly outperform a new i5 in that game, but I wouldn't buy one. Grab the locked i5, overclocking doesn't make all that much difference and you'll likely end up spending an extra $100 all said and done.

Be careful about H110 boards with 7xxx CPUs, many will need a BIOS update to POST with one. Only 2xx chipset and those 1xx marked as Many Lake ready are safe choices.

I prefer 16GB RAM with the 480 and the 6600K. Still leaves you two empty DIMM slots should you ever need to upgrade.

I think you will be closer to the 15+. Can I promise that? Of course not. All chips have their own individual max overclock that is also dependent upon the user's OC'ing proficiancy. Then the game's needs come into play(HA!). Some games may not benefit from the OC. Some games may see a significant boost but because the user has a 60Hz monitor the boost from 70 to 85FPS is lost due to the refresh rate. The OC would only get it closer to tearing. Then again maybe CPU is not the culprit. Maybe the GPU needs the OC.

I have a 144hz monitor and at least I want to reach the fps to 100.

I'm really saving money right now so I might consider the cheaper motherboard.

And there's also RYZEN, may be I can wait like 1 or 2 months for it and see what happens.

An i7 6700 would be better than either, and a 7700 better still. Battlefield loves threads and i5's are simply not in the same league as an i7. It's also possible that a 6700 + cheap H110 board could be only marginally more expensive than a 7600 + B250.

Agreed. BF1 LOVES the i7 6700K/7700K K's up to you.

I don't think I can afford the i7 6700K/7700K
For now I have two options whether to upgrade to i5 kaby/skylake or buy an $160-155 i7 3770, since I'm still using i3 lga1155. the i7 3770 will be running on stock since my motherboard can't overclock. Is i7 3770 might be a worthwhile upgrade?
I don't mind medium to high settings in 1080, hoping to reach 100fps with i7 3770 boost to 3.9

From a dual core i3 3220/50 to a quad core 3770? YES PLEASE!!!

Well,i think i screwed myself by getting 7600k.Bf 1 is unplayable.Do you think Dice will fix it,or i should sell the game and commit a suicide(jk)
