Greetings,
I have a new build (this is my first one) all of the components are new.
CPU: intel i5 6600k
Video card: gigabyte geforce gtx 1060 6gb
mother board: gigabyte z170 gaming k3
PSU is corsair vs 650 (i believe it is enough)
Windows 8.1 pro

The fans of the video card are spinning, there are lights on the card that are on. The monitor is working and it is plugged to the video card DVI port.
In the bios i have set "initial display output" to PCIe 1 slot, in the chipset section "internal graphics" is auto.
The only thing installed are the drivers for the motherboard except the one for VGA. When I try to install the latest driver for the card from the gigabyte site there is an error no compatible graphics hardware. In Display adapter settings "total available graphics memory" is 256 mb, I believe it should be 6gb.
What am I missing where could be the problem, why cant find the video card?

Thank you for the advice, but it did not work. The problem was fixed when I installed windows 10 and I did not change anything in the bios I have not already tried with windows 8.1.
