Price to performance for that socket I would recommend the Xeon E3-1230 V2. It is similar to a i7 (4 core/8 threads) so if your doing any video editing or streaming you should notice a difference. If your just gaming you may not notice much of a difference between the Xeon and your current i5 as there's really not many games that utilize the extra hyper-threading.

Naw, you'd have to get a new board for skylake (and the recently released kabylake).

I also believe the you have the latest gen of CPU that you board will support, you can get any intel cpu that is 3xxx. (ivy bdrige or haswell I believe).

you'd need a new board for the intel 4xxxx and 5xxxx series as well.

It will not. The skylake processors are LGA 1155 and that motherboard is LGA 1151. When looking for a processors and motherboards make sure the socket types match. If you are having troubles I recommend using pcpartpicker.com it will check compatibility for you
