I'm having an issue. I don't know very much about computers but I do know a couple things here or there. I have an HP Pavilion 500 PC Series with an i5 processor. My graphics card is stock (AMD Radeon HD 8470). I'm looking at my friend's old GTX 570, and I'm wondering if it's compatible with my PC. I know that the 570 has a PCI-E power supply cable that comes with it and is required, but I can't see where it plugs in or if my PC even accepts it. Furthermore, I don't know if my PC has enough DVI cables and ports to support the 570, as it has two DVI ports on the end. My old card has only one. I need to know if my PC will be compatible with this card, and if it is, how to implement it into my PC, because me old Radeon is getting really annoying.

Can someone who actually knows what they're doing help me please?

The answer is no with your current power supply. A 550W power supply (with 12V at 38A) is recommended for a GTX 570 and your HP Pavilion 500 only has a 300W power supply. The GTX 570 will burn out your 300W power supply and most likely damage other computer parts with it.

AMD Radeon HD 8470 can pull up to 35W and a GTX 570 can pull up to 219W. Huge, huge difference.

Older videocards are great in so far as you can get a good card for a relatively low price, but the downside is they use far more power than new cards. This is fine if you already have a suitable power supply, but unfortunately pre-built computers such as the ones from HP seldom include power supplies of that nature. They include power supplies only just adequate enough to power the system as originally configured. This keeps costs down but limits upgrade options.

Fantastic! Could you also tell me which 550w would be best and would fit in my HP, how much it is, and where I might be able to get it from?
