So tonight I was playing World of Tanks and i noticed that my fans were not working. I checked on CPUID monitor and sure enough 0 RPM. My temperatures climbed up to 104 degrees... way too hot. So I ran MSI Afterburner and manually set it to 100% and still nothing.. RPM still 0. So now I have a question... what to do ... I have an Nvidia GTX 560ti and thinking I should upgrade but to what... any ideas... this card is about 4 years old and well I am sure there is something better out there.

Thanks for your help

Hi everyone... first of all thanks for your input... I do appreciate it. So, I decided to try replacing the fans on the GPU... It was the cheapest way to go as the 2 fans only cost $15 on amazon. At the same time I also picked up some Artic MX-4 thermal compound. So I found a video on youtube to help me out with this as I am a new to taking apart a GPU. I was able to remove the housing, separate the Heat Sink from the Card and keep all the screws without losing them lol... I cleaned off the GPU with a lint free cloth and did a wipe down with alcohol. I took the heat sink and separtated the fans from the unit and put the new ones back on after i used compressed air and blew out the Heat sink of all the dust. Put the screws in which...

Hm. That is odd. Last I knew the fans are powered by the PCI-E slot and not PSU, do you have more than one PCI slot? Try moving it from slot to slot to see if the fan kicks on again. Does it spin during PC boot?

Maybe the lanes on the pcb shorted out or the bearings seized up. Do you have an extra 80-90mm fan? Maybe you could MacGyver it to the heatsink (kinda janky tho). Four years isn't a bad useful life of a gpu, you def got your money's worth out of it.

As far as upgrading, I think the GTX 1060 is the hot piece of hardware right now.

thanks for the reply... i have to say i dont know much about computers... enough to get into trouble... i just took a video of the fans from under and 1 is spinning and the other is not.... i think my next step is to take out the card and blow it out with my air compressor and then see how they spin... i may need to take the housing off and possibly add some sewing machine oil to the bearings....
what do you think

So one of the fans spins and the other one doesn't? Then there's most likely an internal issue that isn't worth fixing. But yes cleaning it and if you know what you're doing you can try taking it apart and doing more but it's probably better to look at a newer card.

Just take some time to work in a clean space and watch for static buildup. Work slow and methodically. Q-tips dipped in high test vodka works good too.

Put the screws in which we a Pain in the A$$... put on some new thermal past and put on the housing and attach it to the GPU Card... now my temps are back in the upper 30's to low 60s even with my game setting to max on World of Tanks and using a 30" wide screen computer through the DVI slot. I have an excellent picture and unbelievable gaming performance. I am also using MSI Afterburner but may turn it off and let the GPU determine the speed of the fans once again. Thanks for everything guys... I appreciate it
