gtx 970 question

Solution
if youre an nvidia fan, get the new 1060 3 or 6gb. theres 0 reason to buy a 970 when the 1060's are a bit better and have more ram for the same price. plus you get new over refurbished.

and from my research a 970 is on par with a 480 4gb and 1060 6gb. the newer cards are better but not by much. the 470 is below all 3 cards

The GTX 970 isn't worth it in comparison. The RX 470 4GB delivers GTX 970 4GB level performance for 160 dollars.

Basically, the RX 480 8GB is GTX 1060 6GB level (Whilst the GTX 1060 6GB is generally on par with a GTX 980 4GB but more VRAM). The GTX 1060 6GB gets the benefit in some DX11 titles whilst the RX 480 gets the benefit in DX12 and Vulkan titles, whilst they equalise in the rest of the titles.

The RX 480 4GB is more more towards a GTX 1060 3GB, but has more VRAM.

the RX 470 4GB is GTX 970 4GB level, but the GTX 970 uses 3.5GB full-speed VRAM whilst the RX 470 uses 4GB at full-speed.

Does he have a GTX 970 and RX 470 in one system? How does that work though? And what type of benchmarking did he do? You can check latest benchmarks using Youtube really.

Also, I had a GTX 970 4GB before this. The RX 480 8GB has been quite an improvement for me, so from my experience it simply performs quite a bit better.

I have a 970. If I were to make a purchase today, id buy the 480. It makes zero sense to buy a 2 year old card when something that is better, came out a few months ago, for basically the same price. Being a fan of a certain brand or name is silly when you are trying to get the best bang for your buck.

Guess I'm going to follow this up with an in-depth analysis between now and later this evening. It's wrong.

looks like i was somewhat wrong. the 970 is not better than the 470 always.

looks pretty game dependent to me... the 470/480/970/1060 all are pretty close in performance with different games favoring amd or nvidia. at least for me who plays bf4... theres no contest. nvidia wins by a landslide

op - good choice. i dont think you'll regret a 1070 at all
