Hi!

I have the ASUS X99-A II (Link) mainboard only recognizing two RAM modules at the time. Here is the relevant hardware:

Mainboard: ASUS X99-A II (Link)
RAM: HyperX Fury (4x, 8GB, DDR4-2133, DIMM 288) (Link)
CPU: Intel Core i7 6850K
PSU: Corsair RM550x
I list the PSU because I can't connect the EATX12V_2 (4Pin) port because there is neither a an additional cable for it available nor would I have a free connector on the PSU to connect it to if I had one.
Settings: XMP is on, system is not overclocked yet. Newest BIOS is flashed.

The problem: If I connect all 4 RAM modules, the BIOS only recognizes the 2 connected in C1 and D1. Other configs are:

  • - Inserted: C1 + D1 = Only D1 recognized
    - Inserted: (A1 or B1) + D1 = Only D1 recognized
    - Inserted: All 4 = C1 and D1.

The RAMs are listed in the QVL. The manual says though, that 16GB is the maximum for non ECC RAM.

So, if I were to return my 4x8 and get some 4x4 or ECC 4x8, would the MB recognize all the RAM? Do I need another PSU so I can connect the 3rd power plug? Am I doing something else wrong?

Thanks!

I would RMA the ram cards. There is no solution that will work for that particular issue. I would stay away from ecc ram as its terribly so compared to normal ram. 3rd power plug? Dont know what you are referring to but you can upload and image and I can let you know what to do.
