Hello,

Recently, I got an issue with my External hard drive, either when I connect it, it will load the hard drive in the computer but then will disappear, or it'll load correctly, I can open it, but every folders in it are completely empty.

When I take a look at the computer it still say that 2/3 of the hard drive are occupied, so I wonder if my files are gone forever ( would be a very big problem, some important stuff in it )

The hard drive :

Iomega Select 3.5'' 1To USB 2.0

So at the moment, I am not sure what to do and not to do in order to save my data, so I hope I will be able to get some help in here, thank you very much !

Those sites may not be or are probably not Iomega - seems to be gone based on a couple of quick google searches.

Does not surprise me that a variety of sites appear to fill the vacuum left by Iomega....

Noted a couple of hints that Iomega "went" to Lenovo. Did not find confirmation.

You have the option, albeit risky, to open the case and determine who provided the physical device inside. E.g. Western /Digital, Seagate, etc.,..

May be on the drive inside.

The actual manufacturer's diagnostic tools may be helpful with respet to the problem.

Or you could just try running the diagnostics to see what may happen.

At this time it is mostly a judgement call based on how much risk you are willing to take.

Or, if time permits, pursue...

Try another USB A-B cable. Preferably a cable known to be working.

Could be a problem with the power adapter as well.

Try the drive on another computer. See if the problems follow the Iomega drive or stay with your computer.

Any known firmware updates?

Use Event Viewer to see if any error codes or warnings are logged when you plug in the Iomega External Hard Drive.

Visit Iomega's forums and FAQs. See if anyone else is posting similar problems.

Thanks for your answer.

Another healthy cable did not work, event viewer all I can read is : The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur.

Google that error.

I just did and received a variety of links.

For example:

http://www.itechlounge.net/2016/06/windows-ntfs-warning-the-system-failed-to-flush-data-to-the-transaction-log-corruption-may-occur/

There are other similar links.

Do you properly disconnect the external HDD before unplugging the USB cable? Try waiting a bit longer to disconnect even though you get a notice that it is safe disconnect.

Sorry - "alim"?

Did the Iomega drive come with any diagnostic software?

Have you tried moving smaller sized folders and files?

Overall I am concerned about doing anythng that could cause more data loss and/or make any recovery impossible.

Any warranty left? Contact Iomega support. See what they suggest.

No diagnostic software, and well, if I can access it it's only filled with folders and no files at all, like they disappeared completely.

Contacting iomega support costs like 20 euros / phone or 15 euros / mail, they're thieves lul.
