I have been having terrible performance with my i5 6600k on most titles (75%-100% CPU usage) I cannot even stream with obs very efficiently with most games either. I understand that the i5 isn't a very multitasking-friendly CPU, but for nearly a $250 price tag I definitely expect better. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Games I am having issues with:
Battlefield One
Star Citizen (I only mention because my buddy has an i7 6700k with 35%-55% usage, mine is 100%)
Arma 3 (Shocker I know)
Witcher 3
and even H1Z1 King of the Kill

Computer Specs:
i5 6600k OC to 4.5 GHz @ 1.28v
Corsair H60 Cooler
(2x) XFX RX480 8GB
ASRock Extreme4 MOBO
16GB DDR4 RAM @ 3200MHz
500GB Samsung 750 EVO SSD
1TB WD Blue HDD
Corsair 650w 80Bronze

Solution
You're playing a bunch of fairly CPU heavy games and want to stream them with OBS on top of that: you really need an i7 for that to work well. AMD's graphics drivers also carry higher CPU overhead and that's probably not helping matters for you either. Battlefield 1 in particular is a huge CPU hog and the i5 can struggle to hold above 60FPS in 64 player maps when you aren't trying to use OBS as well.

Bottom line is that games are getting more CPU heavy now, and i5s aren't necessarily enough anymore if you're trying to chase extremely high framerates eg. you have a 144Hz monitor or you want to livestream your gameplay while maintaining high framerates.

Hey Joe. Let's give this a shot. Can you open task manager and tell me (or post a screenshot) what the CPU looks like while gaming? Are all of the cores maxing out? 1 or 2? Also, is this a new build? Old build with a new issue? Old build with an old issue? Your problems are possibly linked to your power supply. Can you give me the model? Corsair: CX, TX, SF, RM, etc. If you have a CX or CX-M model, that's definitely going to be a candidate for your issues. Can you try removing one of your RX 480s and gaming with just the single card? Giving us those performance numbers would help.

Another point to be made is a CPU bottleneck. Let's assume your friend has the exact same build (same ram, 2 rx 480s, etc) and the only difference is your CPU. It is definitely possible that your CPU is bottlenecking your GPUs since you've got crossfire going on. I find it unlikely the games would be maxing out a 6600k, but it's definitely possible if your GPUs are trying to push even harder. Can you give me an idea of your FPS? Are you getting 100+ FPS? You should be but again, it's definitely possible your GPUs are pushing harder than your CPU causing it to bottleneck.

Hi breek, I am having a similar problem as Joe, my specs are as follows:
GPU: Asus ROG Strix 1060
CPU: i5 6600k no overclock
16GB DDR4 RAM @ 3000MHz
250GB Samsung 850 evo ssd
1TB WD blue HDD
Corsair z-170 Pro Gaming MOBO
PSU: Corsair 500w CX 500
I am having trouble streaming, my fps is fine in most games, 60+ in Overwatch on Epic settings and Rainbow Six Siege on medium settings, ect, however, my CPU usage is often at 100 and my stream stutters quite a lot, the gameplay is often smooth, I have tried many bit rate settings and changing between OBS and Shadow Play, but nothing seems to work. Even CSGO is hard to stream for me, and the odd thing is, for games such as Rainbow six, my CPU is often at 75% or higher even when not streaming, any ideas?
