Solution
They all have coil whine, especially right out of the box. It should settle and shouldn't be that bad in actual gaming situations.

They are also all quite loud. You have to understand there is a fair bit of power. And all that power generates heat which needs to be dissipated.

My 1080 is at 95-100% fan speed when under full load - which in my opinion is expected. Full load = full fans. 100% fans is pretty loud regardless of card.

They are functionally identical.

MSI is the better brand in my opinion. Zotac has always been kind of a cheaper brand, just above powercolor.

The cooling solution makes little difference in GTX 1080s due to a number of other limitations that will prevent OC before temperatures become an issue.

I have been told there is no difference between the 1080s for the most part but I keep reading reviews about them and some of them are terribly loud with coil whine and others have high temps without even having an OC applied beyond the factory OC it came with, so I have been nervous to purchase an 1080. I can't seem to find a single card that people agree runs quiet and doesn't overheat.

Also worth noting that card manufacturers use the least amount of thermal interface material and the cheapest they can find.

My card had an issue where VRMs were unprotected - after replacing all of the thermal padding and adding some where it was required, while replacing the thermal paste and putting the whole thing back together - my temps actually went down a fair bit.

Many people see instant temperature drops by simply giving their cooler mounting hardware a quarter turn to ensure they are on tight and to spec.

I heard about that issue with the EVGA ACX Coolers. That was actually my original choice before I went with the AMP. I really wanted to buy the SC or the FTW but reading the issues EVGA had I was too scared to take the risk. I don't know enough to take apart a GPU and mess with the cooling situation, I'd be too scared to mess it up and blow my warranty. I wish EVGA's ICX cooler's were out since I'd probably just go with that if they were.

I completely understand that. I would not have been very comfortable either if i hadn't done that sort of thing before.

EVGA is very... liberal with their warranties. They will send you parts/fixes directly if you ask them. No warranty voiding for messing with it at all. Most GPU manufacturers don't put any kind of seals on their cards.

It is a very tough choice when its such a high $$$ item.
