How this works? Does this mean that the browser routes the whole traffic thru Opera-controlled VPN server?
OTOH - Opera (the browser) is owned by chinese, so I would be very careful what I use Opera for, with or without VPN.

have to look it up again but i believe they bought a vpn and merged it into the browser but don't recall exactly the details. just noted it is now built in and free.

for what i have tinkered with the browser it does not bother me if it is a china company. but if true, then i could see cause for concern with doing anything that does need to be secured and private. would have to look into it more though to know exactly what/who is running it.

I've been using Astrill. It has a very simple UI which makes securing browsing activity for not-so-techy peeps like me easy. It also works for mobile phones. You can reach their customer support without too much hassle, too.

You can google it up bro. Can i ask what do you need it for? that'll help you make a sound decision.
some of the VPNs i know of are vypr, and ivacy vpn, and nord vpn.

About the subscription renewal, the recurring phenomenon has more to do with your payment method/gateway instead of the vpn service provider. for instance, if you're using paypal, and it's set to recurring, you'll be automatically charged after every three months once your membership expires. in case of paypal, try the following.

1. Log in, then go to settings (the cog icon)
2. under Payment Settings, go to Preapproved Payments
3. then pick the merchant whose recurring sub you wish to cancel
4. then click the Cancel Subscription button
5. Confirm and finalize the request of cancellation

i don't know how other methods work though but i can look it up if you want to.

Well as far as your concern regarding recurring payments are concern you can simply tell it to the support team and they will not keep you on recurring method either its paypal, card or anything. When i bought purevpn i asked the support team on live chat to don't entitle me in recurring payment as they run recurring method. So not a big deal, as far as your vpn recommendation are concerned i can only suggest you to not go for a VPN that is based in 14 eye countries
refrence:
https://www.usavpn.com/is-your-vpn-provider-based-in-a-14-eyes-country/ (i just googled 14 eye countries and got this link most relevant)
Especially if you are based among these 14 countries that its really important to know that all these countries share information with each other, so your online communication and data is not protected.
1 more thing, go for a VPN that states no log policy, also verify it with support, as most of the VPNs keep users activity logs.
