Welcome!

I want to upgrade my PC for gaming and basic 3D rendering.
Today, I have AMD FX-8350, Mobo MSI 990FXA Gaming and A-Data DDR3 2x8GB of RAM.
To buy:
CPU: Intel Kaby Lake i7-7700k
Mainboard: MSI Z270 Pro Carbon or MSI Z270 M5 or MSI Z270 M7
RAM: better 2400MHz CL 10 or 3200MHz CL 14?
OS: WIndows 8.1 or Windows 10?

Which mobo should bo OK? Pricing is similar, possibilities too.
Which OS should be better for older games, like Mafia I?

Best Regards

The Z170 chipsets will run Kaby Lake, but would need a BIOS update. And you might save a little over the Z270 motherboards. However, if you're buying Kaby Lake I don't know why you'd want the older chipset. Take advantage of the newer features (even though they may be few) and a little "future proofing" with features like Intel Optane memory which Z270 and Kaby Lake will support.

Buy windows 10, not even a consideration buying 8.1, and buy whatever mb fits into your budget. All those you listed are fine but there are others out there as well you could probably go cheaper on, because that is quite a bit to spend on a mb. But if you are willing to buy it, then there is definitely no harm in buying a high end good quality one. And as for the ram, depending on what rendering you'd be doing the faster ram would definitely help, so if you don't mind adding that onto the cost then it is definitely worth your while. Also, depending again on the rendering being done, such as large scale 3d, it would be worth getting 16gb+ of either speed ram. But if it is just basic basic rendering, then you can probably save money there due to the rising cost of ram as of late.

OK, but what about mainboards with Z170 chipset?
Like MSI Z170 Pro Carbon or M7?
Are they worth to buy?

Yeah I agree, sorry I'm a bit late to the party, it is totally worth going the 200 series route, even if you don't utilize the very few benefits it offers over the last gen chips, the prices are so close together it doesn't make sense in any money you gain. Plus like rchris said, you will have to wait for the mb's manufacturer to push out a bios update for your board if you buy 100 series before you put in a kl processor.

Have to say thanks to you man, I purchased a Kaby Lake and was also stuck to know which mobo and ram to upgrade to, but found this thread helpful. Anyway this is what I purchased shortly after reading this thread:
MSI Motherboard Z270-A PRO
G.SKILL 32GB (2 x 16GB) Ripjaws V Series DDR4 3200MHz CL16
I almost opted for the intel optane memory too, and it makes sense to I know, but that can come at a later date.
Win 10 is a must for the mobo, and what a mobo it is too with onboard gfx that make my RX480 +Nitro 8 GB look stupid. And it's far from being stupid.
