Hello, I am fairly new to tom's hardware. I apologize in advance for my english and if this has been asked before but i couldn't find the same problem so here goes:
Over the last 6 months i've been losing frames in few games, i re installed windows and also upgraded my GPU in that time period with no success. It happens in Warframe, Overwatch and just today started in Killing Floor2. I used to be able to play all 3 of those before with smooth frames. I noticed it happens when theres alot going on (for example in Warframe when you get a huuge wave of enemies) but im not sure why since few months back it wasnt a problem at all. Changing graphic settings didnt do anything. I don't really know much about pc's but i do suspect my CPU being the culprit, I just don't get why was i able to play it then and now cant, like i said it started happening in KF2 today! Up until yesterday everything was fine. Im on a wired internet connection and i doubt that would be the problem.
Specs:
AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965
GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
8GB RAM
sabertooth 990fx r2.0

Solution
Have you checked your CPU temp while gaming? If it's getting hot (dried thermal paste) it will slow down to keep from burning up

I was checking it when i started having issues with Overwatch, haven't done it again after but as far as i remember everything was alright. I clean my pc regularly and in for example Warframe, as soon as theres alot of enemies, fps starts dropping, that could be in 5 min from starting the game so i doubt its temp. I understand my CPU is getting weak for todays standards, but it still shouldnt be that bad.
