circuit breaker in ups

what is a circuit breaker in the back of the ups it is a small button that is pressed and it will get back to it place so please explain to me what is circuit breaker and btw i have pce ups and i have a 1500va/600w power

basically it is a way to cut the cercit

(+)==/=\ == -(-) completed cercit power flowing all is well a good path

(+)==\ /==(-) when it trips it creates a losse of power for the rest as the path is "broken"

the need for this is say you have a power serge and then is like 4k volts heading to all the stuff you got plugged in well the high volts will trip the brake and cut off the "Flow"

so what i have understood from you is that the button is pressed Manually to protect my plugged in parts or it is triggered automatically? this is what i didn't understand the presence of this button if it is automatically why they have put it on the back do i need to pressed from time to time or no?
