Okay maybe only 10 months i've now had my PC.
I am wondering what I should upgrade next

I have 360 - 600 euro

specs:
Gigabyte Z97P-D3
i5 4790k
gtx 970 (blower style not the best temps FO4 ultra it hits 70C-75)
8gb 1600Mhz
550w corsair bronze

I have this monitor Benq gl2250 I think it's rather aged now and i'd love a new one (like super love). But I can't get over the fact the monitors I am looking at are the same price as a gtx 1070 or 1080.
My monitor is a small 21inch, has a huge bezel and lays waste to my eyes after many hours but it works fine it's more or less moaning than actual issues and a 1070 would be pretty sweet even sweeter would be the 1080.

I'm not too bothered on a SSD also i'm aware my PSU isn't the best being bronze rated but otherwise it should be okay with a new graphics card so I've read.
I don't know what to do - Should I just wait it out another year? buy a monitor? buy a new GPU?

what do you feel the pc is lacking that makes you want to upgrade? got games you can't play? things you can't do? or just upgrading cause you got cash.

from the description sounds like you want a new monitor, if there are no true "needs' then that would be where 'd go. a better gpu will not help much since a 970 is plenty for 1080p. so a 1070 or 1080 would just be throwing money away as you'll now realy get to take advantage of what it brings.

perhaps a new bigger monitor with a 120 hz refresh rate or something like that would be good for now. then upgrade the gpu later when you'll actually be able to see the difference.

if I choose a monitor it would also extend to another big question of a 4K or high Hz refresh rate monitor, I know everyone would say go for a 120Hz monitor.
I just feel I don't play games that would notice higher refresh and even though I could play very little games on 4K I could still play for an example Bioshock Remaster on 4K like I am now but with a 4K monitor it'd look better plus 4K overall browsing etc would be nicer.
So to me I feel like a 4K monitor 60Hz 1-2 ms reponse time would beat a 120Hz full HD monitor..Plus let's say in a year I buy a new GPU, I will be able to at least game on 2K even at 4K. What's the point of 120Hz or 144 or 240 if I don't play games where it makes a difference lol
to me it seems like the best way to go with a monitor in my situation(?)

you got the right idea. if high fps is not important to you, then don't worry about it. who cares what "everyone would say" a quality 60 hz 4k monitor would be ample for you it sounds like. and as noted, down the road a gpu upgrade woudl let you do 2k or maybe even 4k gaming with reduced settings. 4k is plenty doable with reduced settings, just people seem to have such a fixation on "max settings" that they can't think of anything else.

a 970 will easily handle 1440p at reduced settings now and a gpu upgrade later on would allow for better if you already have the monitor to go with it.

seems you already know what you want to do but are looking for someone to back you up. :) i'm not one of those who feel i'm missing out if i'm not at max settings at 10000000 fps. 50-60 fps is more than ample and easy to do at 1080p even with the r9-280 i currently have in my system!! go with your gut here and get that shiny new monitor and worry about a gpu upgrade later. other way around and it's really wasted on the gpu until you get a new monitor.
