Are Xeons Better than I7s?

i always had this question in mind. so i wanted to ask it to all of you!

i have an ASrock H61M-VG3 motherboard
Are Xeon processor better than I7 processor?

i know that Xeon processors are used for "Servers" but i always wanted to know what processor is better!

Typically i7's with the same # of cores have higher clock speeds than the Xeons, which creates more heat, but is more useful to desktop applications that hit a thread or a couple threads hard.

There are Xeons that can go up to more #'s of cores, but there are also 6-8 core i7's if you have tons of $$$.

Xeons usually have an identical i7 counterpart. Xeons tend to support ECC when used in a server chipset, but there are no major features that separate them, they're just slightly different clockspeeds, sometimes faster and sometimes slower.

Better is not a complete term of comparison unless you say "Better at what". The answer depends on the intended use.

For typical consumer user, the i7 is the better choice. However, given the motherboard listed above, I don't see overclocking being a factor, so a good deal on a compatible Xeon might be in order.

Xeons are typically better binned parts as well. They are the ones that pass the more stringent QA tests for better reliability.
