Okay guys so I am a student in computer science and I am about to head into the world of portable pentesting/IT security and I am not sure where to look. I have never owned a laptop in my life, because they have never had the kind of power I like to have. So I looked around and there are a ton of options and brands for laptops, but they are accompanied by price tags that make me want to cry. I can deal without dedicated graphics as long as there is a Thunderbolt 3 for outsourcing GPU's for hash cracking but otherwise I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I am looking for something light, portable, can last (battery wise) a while but has at least 12gb of ram and the capability to upgrade both RAM and SSD/HD later. However, my big question is, can I get away with the new 7th Gen i7's? They only have dual cores in the laptops and I am worried that running 3-4 VMs plus primary will test a dual core too much, (if it will run that many at all?). Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What's your budget? I actually use a 17" MacBookPro with 16Gb or RAM, 940GB SSD, and it's a quad core i7 @ 2.3Ghz. On it I run the native OS X El Captain, a Windows 10 VM, a windows 8.1 VM, Kali Linux VM for Pentesting, Tails, and Ubuntu VM for linux stuff. It's got more than enough power for me.

That would be awesome but sadly my price point will be between $1000 to $1400 tops.
