Hi all,

So, I recently decided I wanted to upgrade my Gaming PC. Although I haven't used it recently, I have money burning a hole in my pocket, and thought this would be a fun, yet expensive, little project, and hopefully get me to use it more often then I have been :D . ANYWAYS my current specs are as follows:

CPU: i5 6500
GPU: EVGA GTX 970 4GB SC
RAM: G.Skill 16GB DDR4 (2133mhz)
SSD: 1TB Samsung EVO 850
OS: Windows 10
MotherBoard: Gigabyte G1 Gaming Z170X Gaming 3
PSU: Antec Classic True Power 750 (Gold Rated)
Screen: 1080x1920 @ 60hz

The upgrades i'm thinking about making are:

CPU: i7 7700k
GPU: GTX 1070 (Im thinking about the EVGA FTW, Suggest another if you feel)
****As the i7 doesn't come with a heatsink, Im thinking a Cryorig H7, please suggest if need be!
*****What would be better for thermal paste, MX-4 or the included Cryorig CP9?

The games I play include just about everything, Arma III, CS GO, GTA V, Battlefield 4 & 1, Skyrim, Witcher 3, garrysmod, fallout 4, Sims, SIm City, Cities Skylines, etc. **I aim to play these games at max settings, 1080p, at least 50-60 FPS

What are your personal opinions? Should I upgrade? If I sell my current parts and buy these parts, the difference would be less than $500.

THANKS!!!

If it plays your current games to your satisfaction. I don't see why you would bother. As you are only playing at 1920x1080 and 60hz neither of the proposed upgrades would make much of a difference when gaming. For most games you will see zero difference at those settings. With some you may see some minor improvements. Certainly nothing grand enough to justify the cost.

I'd save the money until you could afford a 2560x1440 144hz, 3440x1440 or 4K screen, i7-7700K and appropriate GPU. Then you will have a noticeable upgrade.

Although if you aren't using it much for gaming now. You'll likely just play a couple titles for the wow factor then lose interest in gaming on PC again.

I agree with above post.

That being said, if you are set on an upgrade just go for the gtx1070 and you will max everything into oblivion at 1080p. Probably good on your CPU, could still upgrade the cooler on your i56500 if you have a windowed case and want it to look nice (and run colder/quieter)

I built a i5 6500 RX 480 8 gb for the kids it plays all the new games smooth ( they have a 1080p 75hz free sync monitor ........ I think you should be good

I think at 1080p 50 -60 fps is do able at mid to high setting with AA turned down ( or as the others said a gtx 1070 will be a nice upgrade ) for about 380 to 400
