Hi,
I have upgraded to gtx 1060 3 gb msi, and have amd fx 6100 processor. I think my cpu is bottlenecking my gpu and feel some drops in the games. I would like to upgrade to a good cpu.

please guide to what I can upgrade. this is mainly for gaming (1080p), with browsing and video entertainment (1080p). Please note no rendering work will be done. And will have to llok only for AMD as my mobo is MSI gaming. I look at it 8320 or athelon X4 860k. I read that inspite being cheapest x4 860k is pretty good at gaming. just like i3 6100 is better than its costlier fellows.

Please guide.
Other Config is

MSI 970 gaming
MSI GTX 1060 3 GB
2.5 TB HDD
128 GB SSD
BenQ 24" (1080p)
12 GB ram DDR3

Waiting for the kind response.

Thanks,

860K is an FM2+ processor while FX are AM3+, not compatible sockets. I suggested FX 6350 because it would be a good match for your GPU and give you solid boost over 6100 without changing anything else.
An i5 would be better of course but that means changing a lot of expensive things like MB and RAM. i36100 is only dual core and to my thinking is not worth extra money for it's performance and would also entail new MB and RAM.

@ Grandmaster. Thanks for the info. But are you sure 860k wont run on this mobo. I thought it would run all amd.

And how good 6350 is compared to 860k and i36100. considering its price (higher than i36100), I would expect a good fight to i56500. Please guide on that note.

Thank you for the explanation. what I wanted to know how good or bad it is aginst i36100 , 860k and i5. Please brief on that. and u think I should wait for zen..? will it be coming shortly and in the same budget of 10-15k INR.

i5 6xxx is certainly going to be better than anything you can put in that MB but at I said is much more expensive, CPU itself as well as MB and new RAM. Way overkill for that GPU.
ZEN/Ryzen we are all waiting for but will also need new MB and RAM. Pricing is not known exactly but will probably be cheaper than Intel of same performances. On the other hand, Intel prices may have to be adjusted too so I would wait for time when it all becomes clear (couple of months at least) if you don't want to change processor only to tidy you up for a while.

How about 8320 ?? 6350 is not available...Will it be a good and worthy upgrade over FX 6100.

Can I overclock 6100 to 3.8ghz ??
With srtock cooler and fan. ? Have circle 821 cabinet with 34 fans.

FX 6350 starts with 3.9GHz and 8320 at 3.5GHz.. As most games use up to 4 cores (some even less), frequency is more important than extra cores. I picked 6350 as perfect balance between speed/frequency/power consumption/price.
8320 is a bit of a "bastard", more like not very successful 8350 which would be much better choice despite lover price. 8370 is a bit tuned up 8350 but in my opinion it doesn't justify price difference as it has same performance but with somewhat (not much) less power requirements.
So, I would put 8350 as best choice performance wise and 6350 as best choice money wise. As for OC, they all have about same potential but are all hindered by lousy cooler unless you get a processor with new, Wraith cooler that's marginally better.

sorry to ask too much, but confused a bit. 8350 costs around 16k INR. and its not future proof too, currently I have clocked to 3.6 from 3.3 in fx 6100.
will taking that to 3.8 make any difference ? I plan to oc it and wait a bit for zen to launch and 8350 price dip. meanwhile I need to buy CM cooler as it clocks 52-53 easily without heavy games for a longer time.
