I installed the R9-390 into my computer after a clean Windows 10 install, downloaded and installed the newest AMD drivers, then installed Steam and Skyrim. Skyrim launches, but will not load a new or saved game. The computer reboots itself upon attempting to render the main game. Also, the computer reboots itself immediately upon trying to run the Valley or FurMark GPU stress tests. GPU Temperature when starting the stress tests is 41 deg C, and upon reboot 20s later is still 41 deg C. NO associated error message in the event viewer (other than "computer did not shut down cleanly" and "previous shutdown unexpected" messages.) I can surf the web and run Quicken and play solitaire, etc. with no problem. Any advice on a trouble-shooting direction would be greatly appreciated. I'm a disabled vet on fixed income and spent $380 on this card and Amazon won't refund my purchase. It'll be months before I can afford another card.

You plan on running a crossfire setup? If not, then there's no need for 800W. Sure, you can go that route, but it's unnecessary for your build. If you only run a single GPU, 650W should be more than plenty for any single card system out there. Just something to keep in mind.

Anyway, here's a list (guide) of different Tier levels of PSUs. Look the list over and find...

Agreed, PSU is most likely the issue.

Any high end card requires more power. You can't just slap in a PSU that has a high watts rating, either. You need a decent/quality PSU.

Grabbing some crappy, cheap no name brand PSU that says 800W doesn't mean it will provide 800W to the system. Also, over spending on a high watt PSU isn't really necessary either.

The R9 390, can hit upwards of 400W. It is a power hungry card. You'd want a quality 650W PSU, one that's from a good company and is at the very least 80 Bronze rated. A good one that's not too much would be the EVGA 650 GQ.

Do you know your current PSU? Make/model?

Finally was able to shed some light on this...at least into the case so I could see the power supply. It's an Xtreme Gear ATX-CB800W. From another thread on this forum I see that it's a terrible power supply. I guess, regardless of whether it fixes my problem or not, I'm going to replace it. Any suggestions on a reliable 800w power supply? Thanks muchly.

It was definitely the power supply. The only decent PS available at such short notice in my area was an EVGA unit at Best Buy. They installed it in about 20min for $150 including labor. My system ran the GPU stress tests by FurMark and Valley like a champ. Many thanks to those who responded.
