I've been wanting to get the new Kaby Lake i7-7700K but then I've heard rumors like a Z170 motherboard won't be compatible with it and that it won't support Windows 7 which makes me want to get the Skylake i7-6700K instead.

Should I get a Z270 mobo and i7-7700K or a Z170 mobo and i7-6700K.
Could Someone also recommend a good motherboard? (Not too hardcore and expensive but I want it to last for a long time.)

And the last thing about Kaby Lake not supporting Windows 7, is this true or is it Microsoft trying to get people to Windows 10? (Btw please do not try to convince me to get Windows 10 instead).

Thanks!

Z170 will support Kaby lake, but you will need a BIOS update on the Z170 motherboard to be fully supported.

i7-7700k vs i7-6700k is a wash when overclocking. When at the same speed, these processors are very hard to tell apart. Since they are priced the same (at the moment), use the motherboard pricing to make this decision for you. A Z170 board will likely be cheaper.

It is absolutely true that Kaby lake will not support Windows 7. It is also true that Windows 7 support runs out in three years which should be much shorter than the lifespan of this PC. You will get forced to Windows 10 at some point...
