Hello guys good day to you!

My second hard drive had this issue few days ago. it came up suddenly and when i checked disk manager it showed dynamic disk invalid. after few restarts and plug and play it came back but day after the same happened and i was unable to recover it. i tried using HxD to try and convert it into a basic but it utterly failed. i think i changed the 1c2 location in sector 0. anyway after restarting i found out that i f*@#! up my hard drive doing stupid thing. it was all bunch of zzzzzzzz letters followed by ATA drive in task manager. after some tinkering i was able to get it back albeit without my data i had in it before. my questions are as follows.

1. what are the reasons for this dynamic disk invalid problem? why does it happen? does malware and virus play a part in this?

2. my second hard drive is now basic. hard drive checking indicates that drive is without any problems. but i fear if i put any data on it i might lose them again. is it really safe?

some information about my system you guys might need..

h61 motherboard
first hard drive is a sata 2
second hard drive ( one i had the problem with) is sata 1 ( might this be a problem? )
windows 8 pro 64 bit

Thank you very much for your time.

Tons of reasons why a drive would do this, bad sector or something else wrong on the drive, bad SATA cable can cause issues. How did you check the drive? If you only used the Windows check disk that won't do much for you. You need to run the drive check utility from the drive vendor. If that comes out fine, get a new SATA cable, format your drive and use it, it should be fine, or at least as find as a hard drive can be.
