I have the Intel Core i7-4790, Socket-LGA1150, psu: Cooler Master B500 VER.2, 500W PSU. harddrive: Samsung SSD 840 EVO 120GB OEM and i want it for gaming and streaming, for h1z1 kotk at around medium+ settings

After a certian point, more watts is not better.

The 80 Plus rating on power supplies is an efficiency measurement, at 50% wattage load they can opperate at x% efficiency. Well when you get down to 20% load then your efficiency can really drop. Thus on a 1000w psu, when not gaming you will only use 120-150w of power and thus use far more electricity then say a 600w unit.

Not to mention that even 750w is more then what is needed for any new generation GPU (outside of some off-beat AMD ones).
There is no point to pay more for soemthing you wont use, wiggle room and future growth are very good to account for, but at a certian point it is sitll wastefull spending.

Only reason to go that high wattage without actual consumption need I can imagine would be a "cheap passive PSU" - semipassive PSU you (almost) never load high enough to make the fan start...

But that's really pulling my leg to think of at least a bit legitimate reason to buy so excessive PSU.

Or, ofc, you plan to upgrade your machine in a significant way (SLI, multiple SSDs/HDDs etc.). Unless that is the case, get the recommended one above.

If you dont think that upgrading yoru psu to prevent your expensive graphics card from getting fried then that is your decision, we will see you again in a few months when you are asking for help troubleshooting why your PC wont turn on.
