Hi
I have recently been given an old computer specs below:

CPU: Pentium g3220
Gpu: Geforce gt630 2GB
M board: MSI h81m-p33 (ms-7817)
Ram: 4GB DDR3 (nfreg 1999.5mzh)
HDD: 500gb

As i a new to the scene to start with i was wondering if any of the above can overclocked to increase performance, even slightly for the time been

Also im think of increasing the ram by 8gb as it has a free slot, such as the following HyperX 8GB 1866MHz DDR3 CL10 DIMM Fury Series Blue

http://www.ebuyer.com/633809-hyperx-8gb-1866mhz-ddr3-cl10-dimm-fury-series-blue-hx318c10f-8

I am in the process of saving up for a new rig but it will take some time. For the moment i am hoping to play games such as cities skyline, total war, football manger and older FPS. But just want to maximize this current set up best i can.

Thanks

Other than a video card don't put money into that system, use it as is. Some games do not like dual cores as seen even with the overclockable G3258.

You could put in an i5 or i7 or even i3 and that 8GB ram but for that money you can add a little and get the new platform benefits, m.2 ssd slot, usb-c, etc. What power supply is in it? If you are on a budget look into the Pentium G4560, kaby lake with 2 core 4 thread and 3.5 GHz, almost the same as the I3 6100 for about half price. Needs a 200 series motherboard and some ddr4 2400 MHz 8GB. Sell the old cpu board and ram.

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/qDxbVY $199 for the core components with future in mind, two extra ram slots, usb-c, m.2 ssd

vs https://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-core-i5-4460-lga-1150-haswell-refresh-quad-core-32ghz-base-34ghz-turbo-1100mhz-gpu-84w-cpu-ret $185 before adding your ram, or https://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-core-i3-4170-lga-1150-haswell-dual-core-37ghz-5-gt-s-dmi-1150mhz-gpu-37x-ratio-54w-cpu-retail $115 and then the ram $60 you listed for either cpu.

Then depending on the power supply and budget get a 1050, 1050TI, 1060 3GB or a 1060 6GB, and then an SSD later.
