Asus X99-M WS, 5930K, 32GB G SKill Value 2133 (4x8), built almost a year ago. So my PC has acted up a little this week (game crashed, memory error when restarting, and BSOD last night). So I decided to boot into memtest86. It froze after 7 secs... So I took 3 sticks out and left 1 in slot B1. Booted memtest86, same result. Installed a different stick into D1, booted memtest86, same result. Tried a different stick, same result. So then I reinstalled all 4 sticks and thought maybe I didnt create the bootable USB drive properly. Went back to bios, only detects one RAM in D1. Took all the RAM out except B1, and it detects it. Put the other 3 sticks in and still only one stick in B1 showing. Grabbed the 32GB out of my z170 build and installed all 4 sricks on it, same result, only B1 (which is the slut to only install 1 stick in if you only run one stick. It seems that no matter which stick I use of where I put it, the PC can only detect 1 stick. Any idea? Is my mobo bad?

Solution
Assume it was working fine before? Full 32GB? Sounds like mobo problem, but you can reinstall everything to see if any change, if not, you will need to get the mobo replaced to see if that solves the problem.

If all modules are working individually in slot B1, sounds like the RAM is fine.

yes, sounds like your motherboard is ding

try to give it a good clean, those ram slots specially, a with the one that responds try to upgrade bios, if it survives, that was the problem, if it dies, well, you will need a new mainboard

Well I reseated the CPU, and checked all cables and connections. All 32GB is now showing (and yes, all 32GB have always shown until this issue today). I am currently running the Windows memory diagnostic tool. After that I may run a stress test for a bit too. I guess either my CPU got moved a little or something wasn't connected all the way?

Well it passed Windows Memory Diagnostic tool, passed Asus PC Diagnostic memory test and stress test, ran Geekbench 3 just fine, had good scores in PassMark memory test, and I played Rise of Tomb Raider @ 3440x1440 max settings using over 10GB of RAM. So I guess its good to go!

i usually just load memtest x86 form any livecd or download memtest livecd and run it for a couple minutes

it stresses ram modules

in general sometimes mainboards misbehave like this

if it happens again, consider replacing that mainboard

Yeah I definitely will replace it if it happens again. I really think reseating the CPU is what fixed it. It didn't seem to not be seated properly but who knows. I just checked every connection to the board, even my drives lol.

Yeah I really don't know what to think. No matter how many times I reseated the RAM it wouldn't show more than 8GB. So I just took everything off the board and reinstalled it all and now it works. Time will tell if it's actually fixed.
