As i saw many benchmarks AMD performs great in new DX 12 titles coz. of AMD's new tech.. So is it better to buy RX 480 over more powerful GTX 1070 for future proof build to last 3 or 4 years to play in high/ultra settings?

Solution
GTX 1070, hands down. AMD does seem to perform a bit better in DX12/Vulkan, allowing it to pull ahead of the otherwise-slightly-more-powerful 1060 in games with those APIs. But the performance gap between a 480 and 1070 is simply too large, there's no way RX 480 is going close the gap. The 1070 costs 60+% more than the 480 for a reason.

GTX 1070 I don't believe even with driver refinement the RX 480 ever passing GTX 1070 even if it does say catch up to the 1070 would still be faster in DX11 path will still probably be used for the next 5 years similar to Dx9 (IMHO).

How is your current system running? If it's satisfactory, I'd say wait a couple months or so for AMD's next release (Vega, whatever else). You could save yourself some money and possibly be able to make a better choice than a 1070. But if you must upgrade now, I'd say go for the 1070.

It's for my brother and he is currently using 1st gen. i7, HD 6850.. So for more than a year he moved to PS4 gaming.. Now he finally planned to upgrade PC and do some PC gaming. Already bought i7 7700k and Asus z270 motherboard, 16GB RAM and other things...Will buy graphics card in a week. So its time for upgrade.
