hey guys, wonder if you could help me identify my problem; so i got a new PC built by a company named Mificom, in which I got an i5 6600k built in, which should be easy to overlock right? or so you would think..my idle temps were about 40 degrees celsius.. I thought to myself that the Mificom company cooler must be bad then.. so i bought a Artic Freezer 13 CO, which had amazing reviews on amazon and fit in my case; installed it, nothing changed besides the top temps were slightly lower. still over 90 and in some cases 100 with thermal throtting in Intel XTU stresstesting. Afterwards I checked a few tests out for the fan, and they werent as great. Of course i aborted the tests straight away and the CPU still runs fine, except for the temperatures... in games it never goes above 80, so thats acceptable, but thats only because I underclocked the CPU, which is bad for this CPU.. so what are your ideas? are the sensors not working correctly ? Did I lose in the CPU lottery ? Is my cooler bad?

here are my specs:
Intel i5 6600 k
MSI Z170M Mortar
MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X
16GB DDR4 NoName RAM

The Airflow in the case is really good, I installed SpeedFan and it showed me 30 degrees in the case, i have an additioal Fan in there too. Well when I installed the new cooler I cleaned the paste of the first one and then applied the new one, thin layer and everything.. its the paste that came with the cooler though, so maybe the paste isnt good :D i installed it 2 times making sure everything is 100 % screwed in tightly, so I think yeah I installed it correctly. The manual said that for intel sockets I can seat it whichever way i like, so I did that. Still checked both ways, same results.

Sounds like heatsink not seated correctly or needs thermal paste reapplied or that cooler is not working right.

Is the heatsink fan spinning? If there is any rattling make sure there isn't something blocking the fan from turning.

I have run into a similar issue when I was in an African country which I can only attribute to the air quality/humidity (regardless of how cool the room ambient temp was). This caused my CPU temps to spike up to the 99C and I had to underclock by 500Mhz to keep it at 80C max. When I got back to the US it was back to 79C max at full clock speed.

If the PC is a prebuilt computer from Mificom then it is highly likely it has warranty on it like most prebuilts i've seen, if its a custom build that they assembled then its a bit different. If it is a prebuilt then you'd probably want to put the fan on that you got with it so they can blame it on a cpu fan. Otherwise you might wanna look up some reviews on Mificom if anyone else has had this or its just a bad draw from the CPU lottery although you might be able to question Intel about that because goods have a minimum requirement so if the CPU doesn't meet it you might be able to get a replacement. Plus if its a system builder you'd probably have better luck.
Anyway i hope you get it working but as to why i have no idea unless its one of those rare occasions where things just don't.

I somehow doubt that the heatsink is not seated right, the pre installed cooler was certainly installed right and should at least be able to keep the i5 in decent temperatures, which it couldnt do, also 100 degrees in stress tests. The fan is spinning just fine, without anything blocking it or so. I think im gonna contact support, but Im kinda hesitant because i sold my laptop and dont want to send in my only PC :D
Is there a way to find out if the sensors are working correctly?
