I replaced the connector on my ethernet cable after the locking tab broke off. I tested the cable with a PS4 since the PC was shut down. It worked properly so I tried it on my PC. It didn't detect the cable being plugged in so I tried a different one. It worked fine with the second cable. I've tried reinstalling the network adapter drivers, changing the speed and flux settings and performing a system restore. I'm not sure what to try next.

Does not take too much difference in the physical connections to make one cable work and another fail.

Yes the cable worked on the PS4 but when plugged into the PC there was some mechancial difference due to cable twisting, connector plug to socket snugness - physical differences.

The cable/connector may have even failed during the unplug from PS4 to plug into PC process.

Try moving the cable back and forth between the PS4 and the PC a few times. You might find some arrangement where the cable works on the PC in the process. However, the cable probably cannot be trusted to maintain connectivity.

Make sure you used the correct connector for your cable (solid vs stranded). Use a magnifying glass to examine the connection. Try a...

Make sure you used the correct connector for your cable (solid vs stranded). Use a magnifying glass to examine the connection. Try a "do-over" - does take some practice to properly connectorize a cable.
