I recently bought and built a new computer. My computer starts up but I do not get a display on my monitor. My ASUS z170-e fails on the VGA test. The VGA Led light stays red. It's even red when my GPU is out of the system. I have done research on this and I've tried everything. I've tried switching ram slots, only 1 ram in each, both rams different slots, and pulling out my GPU. The light is stuck on VGA-LED.

Thanks for your help.

This is my build:

Edit #2: I'm reading that I may have to update bios before a z170 can work with a Kaby CPU. Will buying an updated BIOS chip work for this VGA-LED problem?

Solution

You can clear the bios by unplugging the PC and removing the cmos battery or using the jumper pins on the board (usually)

Thanks for the response! =]

I can't reach bios. The computer starts, fans are working, GPU is lighting up, but it won't get past the VGA test even without the GPU in the motherboard.

Thanks, I have read this too. I will give this a try later tonight when I get home from work. I wish it was a different LED light that was on... At this point I would think it would be easier to find a solution.
