Would two GTS 450 1.5GB cards in SLI mode be better than GTX 750 1GB?

System specs:
Intel core2 quad Q9550 4-core processor 2.83GHz
Dell inc.oc27vv Motherboard
6GB DDR3 RAM
250GB HDD Drive
Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 1.5GB

My question is, if I purchase another GTS 450 1.5GB card and SLI it, will I have better performance than buying a single GTX 750 1GB? Or should I just buy the 750? And if I should buy the 750, what would be the pros and cons of using the 450 as a dedicated PhysX card? Thanks for the input!

No. And your PSU has nothing to do with it. Your option to SLI involves buying a new motherboard with the proper slots. But I wouldn't recommend that as multi-GPU solutions involving budget GPUs from 7-10 years ago are fairly pointless.

If your mobo has only one slot then that's it, you are stuck with one card
Therefore:
The PSU is irrelevant
The number of cards you have lying around is doubly irrelevant, it was irrelevant anyway as you can only SLI similar cards.

A single card is always better, put all of your cards on ebay or whatever, and get 1 better one. A 1050 if you can reach it, or a second hand 950.

Sorry the GTX was a mistype I mean 450 gts (just so old my fingers try to auto correct me) and yes the GTX 750 ti would be the highest recommended card to match to that CPU maybe a GTX 1050 if the 750ti is running about the same price, if only because when you do build a new PC you can move the card over. Also just because you bought a "new" MB doesn't mean it still not old tech, your q9550 was released in March 2008. So it almost 9 years old which is a life time in PC years.

I didn't say you had the Ultra Small Form Factor (USFF) Optiplex 780.

In order for you to use two graphic cards in your system, you would need two PCI-Ex16 expansion slots. The Dell Optiplex 780 has four different sizes (variants). They are:

Mini-Tower (MT) - Only Has One PCI-Ex16 slot
Desktop (DT) - Only Has One PCI-Ex16 / Half Height slot
Small Form Factor (SFF) - Only Has One PCI-Ex16 / Half Height slot
Ultra Small Form Factor (USFF) - Does Not have a PCI-Ex16 slot.

Having reviewed your other threads (now merged), your best option would be to sell the cards you have and purchase the best one card you can get with the money you get.

Bro, what games do you want to play?

then they may have exaggerated a little bit.
That Q9550 is a very old processor, there are no faster processors (in any meaningful way), yes the board might survive and carry on working for another 15years, but the processor is simply not very strong compared to new processors and therefore the demands placed on it by software.
