Hi I built my PC just over a year ago but I'm having a serious problem and that is my games are having FPS Drops and stuttering. When I play certain games e.g. BF1 and GTA V my fps drops frequently. I've done HD Tests and I use msi afterburner and my RAM usage is over 85% and then for other games CPU usage hovers around 80-100%. Please help its driving me crazy

PC Specs are:
Intel core i5 4690k
GTX 970
8GB Ram
MSI Z97 gaming 5 Motherboard
WD caviar blue 1TB

Thanks

Your stock cooler is enough if you don't overclock your CPU, even a slight overclock should be ok, though you wouldn't really notice a benefit from it.

If you go and OC it you better get an aftermarket cooler, tons of options depending your budget and maybe the size of your case.

Still, you need to first find out which process(es) are pushing your CPU to 100% usage, that should simply not happen with gaming, only rendering / stress test programs will push your CPU to that limit.

Okay... First let me say you this: You are running AAA games on a GTX 970 and i5 4690K, Its a nice PC but its quite a bit outdated and its extremly normal to use its full capacity.
I doubt you can handdle 1080p or further on Max settings gaming with that PC on AAA games.
You currently have 2 options and a half...
The half option: If your card is running pretty hot and its thermalthortering itself cause of the high temps you should put the fans at 100% when gaming and that would solve the fps spikes.
The A) Option is to upgrade The CPU to an i7 4790k and a Gtx 1060/70/80.
The B) Option is to Overclock your Whole System the much as possible without burning them. If you have no knowledge on Overclocking first you should read some guides and ask how to properly overclock at an insanity level the GPU and CPU.

Thank you for the reply Ramlethal! The thing is though my PC used to run GTA V with no issue and same with BF1 it's only in the last few weeks I have encountered his issue

Hi.

I recently bought an used Zotac GTX 970. Upgraded drom an HD6950.
For me also I had problem with fps drops and microstutter.
I have googled and every fix I read didnt help me.

Some people also have the same problem cuz of the XBOX DVR(This is an recording software that is inprinted in WIN10)
There are numerous guidence to remove that on google.

But for me. I found something.............There was one thing in the TASK MANAGER that for some reason made the stuttering.
I have posted an YT vid of it...

GTX 970 Stuttering

The fix was I END TASK called MICROSOFT (R) CONTACTS IMPORT TOOL.. after that. the games work smoothly.

If this didnt work. Look at the tasks and see what do you NOT need. And just end those you dont have any use for.

BUT only end those you know what does. or your pc might restart or the desktop UI will disapper. Talking from experience.

Let me know if it works...
