How does this build look for a gaming PC?

I am planning to rebuild my gaming PC. This is the new layout that I am considering. I would first like to mention that the reason why I am using a GTX 970 from my previous build is because I am holding off until the summer to replace the card in case Nvidia releases either an updated version or successor to the GTX 1000 series. If Nvidia either does not announce or release a successor by the summer, then I will go with either the GTX 1070 or 1080 as a replacement for the 970.

I know that the Intel i5 is the top choice for gaming, but I have graduate school courses that use software packages that take advantage of hyper-threading so I am planning to go with an Intel i7 CPU.

Also, the reason why I went with the Asus Wi-Fi antenna listed is because my computer is located two floors directly below the router. The signal has to pass through surfaces such as wood flooring, insulation, and drywall. I need a Wi-Fi antenna powerful enough to handle gaming at 1080P and possibly 4K, streaming video at 1080P and possily 4K, and uploading and downloading music and files to and from my Google Drive account while the signal passes through the mentioned surfaces. I was recommended this this antenna by Fry's representatives. Currently the replacement router that my family is considering is a Netgear AC5300 Nighthawk X8. I am open to recommendations on alternative PCIE-based Wi-Fi antennas. I am uncertain how powerful an antenna I really need and would appreciate your advice.

Also, I am assuming USB 3.1 is backwards compatible with USB 3.0. I intend to reuse my Startech USB 3.0 expansion card which is mounted on the front of my PC case. Will the expansion card be able to connect to the internal USB 3.1 plugs on the motherboard?

Will this build work or are there any issues such as bottlenecks or connection problems that I need to be aware of with this new setup? Thanks in advance.

Well my thoughts were, because the fan is thinner, it wouldn't come into contact with the first dim slot. I don't think it will be a problem, but i'm not certain. You could also contact cryorig support and ask them.
This is quoted from newegg:
Unmatched Compatibility
Zero RAM Interference
Focusing on providing the widest range of compatibility, the H5 utilizes an asymmetric slanted heatpipe layout to move the heatsink away from the RAM zone. Also, fitted with a 13mm thin XT140 the CRYORIG H5 offers optimal compatibility for RAM with tall heat spreaders on both Intel and AMD platforms.

That GTX 970 might be your weak point but everything else looks fine. Just in case though you should try putting those specs in a build on pcpartpicker.com, it will tell you if there are any incompatibility issues.

I had a 600T and hated it, there's definitely much better cases you can get. I would look at the Phanteks Enthoo Pro or pretty much anything from NZXT. You also don't really need a BD-R burner, case fans, or external hard drive, you can cut those things and save money for a GPU upgrade. I also agree against using the Hyper 212, a Cryorig H5 or Noctua NH-L12S would be far better CPU coolers for a 7700K.

And what's your point?

I am looking at the CryoRig H5 Ultimate and the Noctua NH-L12. Would either of these fans be capable of handling the job with the CPU? I do not plan to overclock at this time.

I wouldn't use that noctua. If I had to pick between the two it would be the h5. Your case's maximum cpu cooler height is 170mm and the h5 is 160mm, so it will fit but that's only if the first memory slot isn't used. This appears to be ok for you since you only purchased two memory sticks and will be installing them in channel A, there shouldn't be a conflict. Confirm this by reading your manual.

Thanks for pointing out about the RAM slots. I meant to ask about that. There is a possibility that I might double the RAM in the future by adding two more sticks such as in a future upgrade. With the Cooler Master CPU fan, I positioned the fan to face the rear of the case when I used all four RAM slots. Would that technique work with the Cryorig H5 or is there another CPU fan model that you would recommend that would allow me to use all four slots?

Double check the height of the the cryorig universal. That cpu cooler has a thin fan and is designed to fit in most builds, hence the name universal. It will most likely not interfere with all four dims.

I looked at the Universal. Physically the fan looks thinner. The heatsink dimensions, according to Newegg, are identical between the two if the first RAM slot with the Ultimate fan is not used, otherwise the Ultimate's heatsink height is 8.3 mm higher with the first RAM slot used. The fan dimensions on both fans are identical. Would you still recommend the Cryorig H5 Universal? Would I be able to position the fan facing away from the RAM sticks? Or is there another CPU fan that you would recommend which would allow me to use all four RAM Slots? Also my father pointed something out to me. Is there such a device as an auxilary CPU fan or auxilary fan that can cool a CPU?
