Hey!

I am wanting to get the maximum speed out of a new samsung SM961 M.2 NVMe SSD.

Motherboard is a gigabyte gaming 3 Z170X, as in title.

Problem is I have been reading that using SATA_0 and SATA_1 will decrease speed from x4 to x2. Is this correct?

If so can I install this SSD fine, as long I move my SATA drives to other SATA ports, and then get maximum speed out of the m.2 drive?

(I have tried the motherboard handbook, I am either missing the information, too stupid to see it, or it's not there)

Thanks in advance! :)

Solution
If you use the M2A_32G M.2 slot (the second M.2 slot), you should be able to use all the sata ports.
If you use the M2D_32G M.2 slot, then its best to move any SATA devices connected to SATA 0 and 1 elsewhere.

Brilliant!

Thank you for clearing that up. I wasn't sure if both ended up reducing speed to X2 if you had SATA0 or 1 in use, this information is a big relief!
